The International History Bee and Bowl is planning on holding its inaugural Australian National Championships in either December 2014 or early 2015, depending on which time frame is most convenient for schools. The time and date range shown here represents the earliest and latest possible weekends for the event. We anticipate that the tournament will be held in either Sydney or Canberra, though Melbourne is also a possibility. As soon as we have the date and host school secured, we will post that information here. If your school is interested in potentially hosting the competition, please contact us at nolwenn@historybowl.com. As at the Regional Championships, the host school will receive free entry for their Bowl teams (though not for the Bee).
The Championships will be held on a weekend, with four rounds of Bee preliminaries, five rounds of Bowl preliminaries, and playoffs. On Friday evening, we will plan an event for all attendees, while on Saturday morning, we will begin the championships by featuring a special Sports and Entertainment History Bee which is open to all students and even coaches and parents! The costs for the National Championships will be somewhat higher than for the Regional Championships, to cover travel costs for IHBB staff and a new set of questions. The costs will be posted here by September, and registration for the National Championships will open by October.
Students and teams will qualify for the National Championships by finishing in the top half of the preliminary rounds in the Bee and Bowl respectively at the Regional Championships, or by posting at least a .500 winning percentage in the History Bowl. Like the Regional Championships, the National Championships will feature Middle School, Junior Varsity, and Varsity age levels.
For further questions, please contact Nolwenn Madden at nolwenn@historybowl.com. Thanks, and good luck in qualifying for our inaugural National Championships!
